$660.00 (incl. GST)
Conducted by Dr. Arthavan Srithar at Valewood Clinic, a fitness for duty assessment evaluates whether an employee has the capacity to perform the inherent requirements outlined in their position description safely, reliably and effectively following the development or recovery from certain medical issues. These can include:
- Musculoskeletal conditions – arthritis, joint injuries, or other conditions affecting mobility, strength or physical capacity.
- Cardiovascular conditions – Uncontrolled hypertension, recent heart attacks, strokes, or other conditions affecting a worker’s ability to perform physically demanding or safety-critical tasks.
- Respiratory conditions – Sleep apnoea, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other conditions affecting a worker’s ability to breathe or wear respiratory protective equipment.
- Neurological conditions – Epilepsy, seizures, or other conditions that may affect coordination, consciousness, or cognitive function.
- Diabetes – Can affect alertness, concentration, or consciousness due to
fluctuating blood glucose levels.
This assessment helps determine whether the employee is unconditionally fit to return to work, require temporary restrictions, or benefit from workplace accommodations to support their health and safety.
To make an informed decision around the individual’s capacity to work, Dr. Arthavan Srithar will require the following prior to the employee’s appointment:
- Signed Fitness for Duty Consent Form
- Relevant medical history (including correspondences from the hospital, specialists, allied health professionals)
- Position Description

Frequently Asked Questions
The fitness for duty assessment will require a 1 hour appointment. This will give the doctor time to evaluate the provided documentation, have a discussion with the employee and employer, and write an outcome report.
The doctor requires your relevant medical history, position description and consent form. Without these, the doctor will not be able to conduct an informed evaluation of the employee’s fitness for duty and provide recommendations.
A fitness for duty assessment determines whether an employee is medically able to safely perform their role at a specific point in time, usually when a health concern, injury, or safety risk has been identified. A pre-employment medical is completed before starting a job to assess a person’s suitability for the role, while a periodic medical is conducted during employment at set intervals to monitor ongoing health and work capacity.
