Frequently Asked Questions

A medical assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to determine whether a candidate or employee is medically fit to safely perform the inherent requirements of their role, in accordance with company, industry, and safety standards. It may also be used to identify whether the demands of the role have had any impact on the individual’s overall health.

A medical assessment may be conducted before, during, or after employment, depending on company requirements, industry standards, and the inherent requirements of the role.

A pre-employment medical is conducted after a job offer has been made but before the candidate commences work. Its purpose is to determine whether the individual is medically fit to safely perform the inherent requirements of the position.

A periodic medical assessment (or ongoing health monitoring) is conducted during employment to determine whether the role has affected an employee’s health and whether they remain medically fit to safely and effectively perform their duties. It may also be used to assess any health or safety concerns that arise during employment.

A post-employment medical assessment is conducted at the conclusion of employment to assess whether the position have had any impact on the individual’s health.

Standalone tests such as urine and drug screens, hearing tests, or lung function tests can take as little as 15 minutes.

Most occupational health assessments take 30–60 minutes, depending on the role, industry requirements, and individual medical history.

This does not include the time required to complete pre-assessment paperwork, which typically takes 15–45 minutes.

Some assessments, such as asbestos and crystalline silica medicals, also require an off-site chest X-ray at a radiology provider.

The constituents of the assessment will depend on the industry and company requirements. The assessment will always include a medical history review, physical examination, discussion of your responsibilities, and recommendations to support safe and effective work participation.

Your employer must have access to your medical results to make an informed decision around your health, capacity to perform in your role and overall employment.

If your employer has paid for your employment-related medical assessment, they are entitled to receive the results in accordance with the consent you have provided and applicable privacy laws. If you would like a copy of your results, please contact your employer or recruiting company directly.

If you have paid for the medical assessment yourself, the results belong to you. You may choose to provide your employer or prospective employer with either the full report or a summary of your fitness for work, depending on their requirements.

Yes. Please ask our medicals team how we can facilitate company-wide flu vaccinations at your organisation.

If your organisation has an account with us, we will send the invoices directly to your company for them to organise payment. If they do not have an account with us, you or your direct supervisor will need to pay for your consultations on the day unless an alternative has been mutually agreed upon.
